Ohio Marriage and Divorce Information  

The Office of Ohio Vital Statistics does not issue marriage licenses nor divorce decrees (they are issued by the probate court or clerk of courts).  The Ohio Department of Health, Office of Vital Statistics, maintains the abstracts of marriages and divorces that occurred in Ohio from January 1, 1954, to present.  The service provided by our office is to search for limited information from marriage and divorce abstracts that may be used to locate actual licenses or decrees from the courts.  Abstracts are brief forms that list limited information extracted from the original marriage licenses or divorce decrees.  This limited information is used for index purposes and the filing of the marriage or divorce within the State of Ohio.  An abstract is not a marriage license or divorce decree.
