Cook County Department of Corrections (CCDOC) has instituted a new visitation policy.
All family members and friends wishing to visit an inmate MUST complete and submit a Visitor Application to the CCDOC. Visitor Applications may be obtained and submitted at the following locations: Cook County Sheriff's Office website www.cookcountysheriff.org divisional lobby where the inmate is being housed entrance of any Cook County courthouse The application MUST be filled out completely and it is strongly encouraged to submit applications using the Sheriff's website option.
Upon receiving the application, a background check will be run for approval of visiting privileges. Applicants may call the Visitor Information Center at 773.674.5225 to inquire about the status of their application. Please allow three (3) business days after submitting an application to inquire about the status. Applicants will be denied visiting privileges based on the following criteria: The applicant provided inaccurate information on the Visitor Application. The applicant is under the age of 17.
Cook County Electronic Monitoring
The detainee is fitted with an ankle bracelet that is the transmitter. The detainee wears the ankle bracelet 24 hours a day. The transmitter emits a constant radio signal to the HMRU (Home Monitoring Receiving Unit) – a receiver attached to the detainee’s home phone. Over the telephone line, the HMRU informs the Monitoring Center when the detainee leaves and enters the home, as well as if he/she should try to tamper with the equipment.
What Cook County Detainees Can Do While On The Program
Work, attend school and participate in job skill programs, and by obtaining permission, detainees can leave their homes to get food stamps, go to public aid, cash aid checks, go on job interviews, and meet with their lawyers or probation officers.

The Cook County Department of Corrections (CCDOC) is one of the largest (96 acres) single site county pre-detention facilities in the United States. Primarily holding pre-trial detainees, the Department admits approximately roughly 100,000 detainees annually and averages a daily population of 9,000.
Requirements for Entry into the Facilities at Cook County
All visitors must be in possession of one valid photo identification including:
- Valid Drivers License or State ID
- U.S. Military Identification Card
- Valid Passport/Visa/Consulate ID
- Valid Alien Registration Card
- Public Aid Photo ID
- Photo School ID
- All visitors are subject to search upon entering the Jail.
Prohibited items include, but are not limited to, the following:
Alcohol, Electronics, Newspapers/Magazines, Books, Food, Pocket Knives, Cameras, Lighters, Syringes, Cell Phones, Matches, Tobacco Products,
Drinks, Music Players, Tools, Drugs, Nail, Clippers, and Weapons.
